The dental pulp cap is essentially a Band-Aid for the pulp of a live tooth. If the tooth has died and become necrotic, only root canal therapy or extraction is available to the patient.

Pulp Capping Techniques
When a cavity or tooth fracture is in direct contact to the live pulp of the tooth, it’s called a direct pulp cap. When a vacity or tooth fracture is in close proximity, but not directly in contact with the live pulp of the tooth, it’s called an indirect pulp cap.
Biomimetics: Using Bio-Compatible Materials
Traditional amalgam (mercury metal filling) or composite (resin/glass filling) dental restorations require a certain amount of remaining tooth dentin that insulates and protects the nerve of the tooth.
Pulp capping a tooth at Integrative Dental Specialist of Long Island involves using a proprietary integrative biomimetic technique to disinfect the tooth and place biocompatible materials to replace or aid the missing or compromised dentin of the tooth, and regrow that dentin. A regular dental filling cannot do this.

Pulp Capping & IDSLI
Unlike most practices, we restore our teeth using the finest bis-gma free dental materials in a biomimetic manner to recreate the tooth the way nature intended it, and back to complete function in order to seal the tooth from additional trauma or bacterial insult. The natural biological properties of the pulp capping material allow the tooth to heal, and maintain its vitality, avoiding the need for root canals in some cases. Pulp capping procedures are usually performed in a single visit procedure that is usually under one hour in duration.
