A dental implant is a surgically placed artificial tooth root made of either a titanium mixed metal alloy, or pure zirconia.
All About Implant Surgery
What are Dental Implants?
Dental implants are designed to replace individual teeth or to support more sophisticated dental prosthetics. The implant is placed into your jawbone and the threads of an implant are essentially a screw that initially stabilizes the implant. The “magic” of dental implants then takes place as the surrounding bone grows up and into the microscopic surface pores of the implant. This bone healing is called “osseous” or integration of the implant.
Restoration
The implant is then restored, in some cases immediately, in other cases months later as every surgical situation and patient is unique. Even if you are missing all of your teeth, dental implants can provide the foundation for your dental prosthetic needs which may include a single crown, multiple crowns, multi-unit dental bridge, removable implant overdenture, or fixed implant secured denture sometimes called All on 4 or All on X, and Fixed Prettau Zirconia bridges. Dental implants allow your missing teeth to be restored to full function and with natural looking aesthetics. For you, the patient, this means chewing all your favorite foods with no functional limitations, and smiling with complete confidence without feeling inadequate or self-conscious.

The dental patient is now taking the time to educate him/herself about the types of foods they eat and the type of materials that are coming in contact with and going into their bodies. Additionally, these patients are becoming increasingly concerned with the impact these different materials can have on their overall health and safety, particularly metal dental materials. When a patient is attempting to decide what dental implant is right for them, it is always ideal to use the least reactive, least toxic, and most biocompatible material possible.
